Two Elder statesmenn of the department, in the persons of Prof. Jackson A. Omene and Prof. Ajovi B. Scott-Emuakpor paid a visit to the department on teusday 21st July 2009. Prof Omene and Prof Scott-Emuakpor are both based in the U. S. A. and were in Nigeria to attend the 15th annual convention and scientific assembly of the association of Nigerian Physicians in the Americas (ANPA) which took place in Abuja, Nigeria from 12 - 18 July 2009. During the visit, both elder statesmen spoke on the need to raise the department to a higher level in terms of patient care and training of resident doctors. In this regard they both pledged their support and assistance in the area of training and logistics. Jackson A. Omene was a professor and Head of this department, former Provost College of Medical Sciences, University of Benin and Chief Medical director, UBTH. He is currently Clinical Professor of Pediatrics, Columbia University, New York and Medical Director Atlantic Medical Center, Brooklyn, New York. Professor Ajovi B. Scott-Emuakpor was a consultant in the department, former Director, Institute of Child Health, College of Medical Sciences, University of Benin, Benin City, and was also former Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee, UBTH. He is currently Professor, Pediatric and Human Development, Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI, and the Chair, ANPA Program Committee.
The department is grateful to both Prof Omene and Prof Scott-Emuakpor for their contribution to the growth and development of the department and will appreciate the legacy they left behind.
